The rigid back spine of the backsaw ensures a straight cut from end to end. Use this saw in combination with a miter box or miter frame for precise angles.
Often used for straight crosscuts or angled cuts for moulding, trim work, rafters and other general carpentry applications. Miter saws are highly accurate, when used properly.
This tool can be used to cut plastic or soft metals, but may require a specialized blade. Specialized tools are available for cutting tile and pipe.
Prepare Before Use
Measure Twice, Cut Once
• Lower the blade gently to check the alignment of the cut.
• The thin backsaw can be aligned directly on your cutline.
• Secure the board to the fence with a clamp.
• This is especially important for oversized board which may lift off the cutting surface from their own weight.
• You may hold the workpiece with your free hand if your hand is sufficiently far from the blade. There is a higher risk of inaccuracy with this method.
• Lower the blade again to be certain of alignment before beginning the cut
Tool Tips
• Begin your cut with a firm pull cut, to set the blade track.
• Push cuts will hold your material to the fence, which will reduce movement during the cut.
• The feet of the miter frame can be clamped or bolted to a work table for frequent cuts.
