Tool Technique

• Secure one end of string in a nail or tie to a stake

• Place the level on the string and pull tight to ensure a level measurement

• Wrap around a second nail or stake at the opposite end of the measuring distance

loosen and adjust to achieve desired level



Measure Elevation Change or Pitch

1. Extend a string from the high and to the low end of your work site.

2. Attach the line level.

3. Pull the string tight.

4. Raise or lower the string to center the bubble.

5. Measure the distance from the ground to your string to determine elevation loss.
