The portable circular saw is used for making straight cuts through materials such as lumber, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and other sheet materials. Specialty blades can be attached for cutting metal or concrete.

This saw can be used for cross cuts (slicing perpendicular to wood grain) or rip cuts (parallel to the wood grain). Accuracy requires a clear working area, secured working material, and the use of a guide.
